Mediation Role of Organizational Trust on Relationship of Emotional Intelligence and Job Satisfaction

Abstract

In recent years, emotional intelligence of individuals has begun to be emphasized in working life. The level of emotional intelligence of individuals has an influence on terms such as satisfaction, trust, commitment, communication, etc. One of the indispensable elements for individuals in the working environment is trust. Individuals want to trust their institution and their colleagues. Individuals' trust levels are also important in terms of job satisfaction. The purpose of study is to reveal the effects of emotional intelligent on job satisfaction and to evaluate the mediation role of organizational trust. In this direction, employees in Kahramanmaras textile sector were selected as the sample. Analysis of the research conducted by survey method on 410 textile staff, who worked at private companies in Kahramanmaras/Turkey, was performed through Structural Equation Modeling. A questionnaire involving the WLEI Scale by Wong and Law (2002) for emotional intelligent, organizational trust scale by Whitener (1998) and organizational job scale by Lytle (1994) were applied. Results of the analyses have shown that there is a statistically significant effect of emotional intelligence on job satisfaction and organizational trust, respectively. Furthermore, the results showed that organizational trust has mediation role on relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction.
