Abstract

Even if , demand of world air transportation in which incrementally progressed has been continued to growing (2-3% yearly average) since last fourteen years, growing of the airline passenger transportation in Turkey remarkably appeared over the world average during this period. In accordance with statistical studies, it is estimated that smiliar pattern will be occured in over the coming years. By 2003, having been started to liberalizations in the airline industry turned out the airline passenger transporation thereby, Turkish opererator’s market share and respectively international and domestic the number of carried passenger have been regualrly increased against to foreign operators. If we looked at from competitive aspects, Porter argues that five different forces drive a company’s performance. The reason why that by glancing at these five forces via macro economic perspectives, in this study, by content analysis methodology it is tried to explain whether the airline passenger transportation industry is attractive or not and if it is attractive which driving force(s) create(s) this gravitation and what tendencies may cause something to change in the industry. As a result of the study, provided that exempted other factors, it was reached to conclusion that the industry has not been enough attractive inasmuch as intensified competition among the rivalry, becoming monopoly position or a few suppliers, existing high entry barriers, having been trend the more and more bargaining power of buyers even if the threat of new entry or substitute product or services have not serious impact on the competition.
