Abstract

Urban security basically includes the formation of an administrative system against the violation of the basic human rights of the people living in the city and a series of lifestyle practices to prevent the deterioration of the public order. Equal opportunity and mutual trust among urban individuals are among the indicators of urban security. Since the emergence of the cities, the most important threat to urban security is the crime phenomenon. Hate crimes against different identity groups in cities, triggered by migration, is a new field needs to be studied in terms of sociological and criminological way. Because hate crimes are a criminologically quite new concept, but at the same time it is one of the most important precursors of other crimes that are much more difficult to tackle. The subject of this study is analysis of the effects of hate crimes committed against immigrants who had to settle in cities in the wake of massive migration movements on urban security. In order to explain the effect of hate crimes committed against immigrants on urban security, it is analyzed the hate crimes as reflected in national media against the Syrians who migrated to Turkey since 2011. It is considered that the viewpoint of urban security as important as the current sociological, legal and human rights dimensions of the effective policy making process tackle with the hate crimes committed against different group identities including immigrants in Turkey is also important.
