Abstract

SMED is an effective method for reducing losses in the manufacturing process and provides flexibility in transition from one part to another. Workshop-warehouse operations, mold changes and quality approval periods of a subsidiary industry that manufactures fasteners in the automotive sector are covered in SMED, which is a frequently used method during the improvement of long production lead times in production systems. It is aimed to draw attention to the importance of the SMED method and to show the utility in use and the frequency of use and the gains obtained after small improvements, while the gain is obtained by shortening the preparatory period of the workshop by the worker's production process. 12 set up observations were made over a period of 10 days, totaling 2348 minutes from various sections of the operator. The loss durations of the inspections have been determined, the suggestions for the improvement of the losses in operation, the reduction in the cumulative total after the implementation of the proposals, and the benefit of operating the time accrual in addition to this decrease is 531 minutes, indicating 22% of the total observed duration. This benefit is the output of the work.
