Abstract

Firms perform some kind of selling and marketing expenses to increase sales revenue. At this point, it becomes important to figure out the effect of selling and marketing expenses on sales revenue. The effect of selling and marketing expenses on sales revenue and whether it has differentiated in terms of manufacturing and service sector firms are examined in this study. For this purpose, 1816 firm-year observations data covering the period of 2005-2016 belonging to BIST Manufacturing and Services sectors were used. Pooled data regression analysis were performed in the study. According to obtained results, there is a positive and statistically significant effect of selling and marketing expenses on sales revenue. There is also evidence that effect of selling and marketing expenses on sales revenue is differentiated in terms of manufacturing and service sector firms. It has been determined that the effect of selling and marketing expenses of service sector firms on sales revenues is higher than that of manufacturing sector firms.
