Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the reasons that affect the competitiveness of airline companies in terms of civil aviaition transportation in terms of strategic management and competitive strategies and to reveal the main causes of them and also based on the point of view the managers of the organizations in the industry, it is aimed to show the perceptual maps of the firms according to the service characteristics that affect the competition and market share and to compare the other airlines with the related factors by determining the market positions of these firms. In the first stage, the managers of airline companies were asked about thirty and twenty questions on quadruple scale according to the importance and performance level of internal and external factors affecting the market share of firms and performance levels were compared with sectoral average values of airlines and then firms are compared by positioning map which is consist of price and service quality dimensions according to the factor analysis results via benchmarking of airlines themselves according to the sixteen service traits in respect to five likert type scale. As a result of the study, it has been determined that the duties which to be done by government, private airlines and Turkish Airlines to increase the market shares of the companies, are proposed.
