Abstract

Due to the diversity of today's car market, brands and models, the optimal choice is a complex and difficult process for individual customers and for fleet car buyers. This difficulty becomes a problem when decision makers’ different expectations are added to the car features. Multi-criteria decision making techniques have been developed for solving such problems. In this study, we will find a solution to determine the ideal automobile by using AHP and VIKOR methods which are multi criteria decision making techniques in order to meet the needs of a marketing company. In the first stage, a pair-wise comparison table was filled out to 20 company managers to determine the weights of the criteria, and the expectations from the cars to be purchased. The obtained data were evaluated by the AHP method and the weights of the characteristics were determined. In the second phase of the study, the automotive distributors provided a list of the top 10 model vehicles that sold the highest number of vehicles on the Turkish market in 2016, and the characteristics of those cars were taken from the official internet sites of those brands. In the third phase of the study, the best and worst values of the criteria were determined according to the cost and benefit characteristics, and a weighted normalization decision matrix was created and a VIKOR analysis was performed. At the end of the work, the ideal car for the company was identified by using the VIKOR method and it was recommended that the company choose this car when buying a fleet.
