Abstract

In the historical process women’s rights has existed as a problem. As for this issue in the international arena, especially from the 1970s, the country has entered into binding solution seems to be seeking. During this period, various women's conferences were organized, various documents were prepared for the rights of women. In this respect, woman– man equality in the constitutions of countries have begun to take place. In terms of Turkey, the modernization movements in the Ottoman Empire, it was important for women, but mainly the steps taken in the aftermath of the Republic, has changed the social and political position of women. Because in this period, women have achieved the right to vote and be elected earlier than women in many Western countries. The transformation in the international arena, especially in Turkey since the 1980s has gained momentum. Because Turkey approved CEDAW, in national legislation woman – man equality has constitutional guarantee. This point in terms of Turkey is not sufficient for the equality of women – man and woman’s rights. But, it is important that a transformation is taking place. This study aims make an assessment on Turkey together with women’s rights on behalf of the transformations in the international arena.
