Abstract

This study aims to empirically test the relationship between alcohol abuse and depression levels of universities students. Participants were 160 students (82 female and 78 male) of state and foundation University. The data were collected using a "Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST)," "Beck Depression Inventory (BDI)" and "Personal Information Form." SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 21.0 software was used to analyze the study data. It was found that there is a moderate positive statistical relationship between the scores of the Alcoholism Screening Test and scores obtained from the Beck Depression Inventory. Also, there is a statistically significant difference between alcohol abuse and depression levels. In addition, the results indicated that scores taken from the depression scale increased when alcoholism scores get increased.
