Abstract

The process of globalization affects cities and urban identities both locally and through global dynamics. Nowadays, as a result of the process that takes place in the market-oriented global capitalist framework in the neo-liberal direction, there is a race between cities. Now, in order to be able to exist in this race, the emphasis on the branding of cities has begun to come to the forefront. In addition, urban policies such as urban regeneration, urban renewal, gentrification, and urban conservation also affect cities considerably. In this process, the identity of cities, the cases of entrepreneur cities or brand cities are often mentioned. In this context, urban regeneration, which is accelerating with globalization, also takes a part of the identity of the city. The change of historical and cultural identity causes the change of identity in the city with globalization. While urbanization of the capital is pointing to a new stage for the cities, change of the identities of the cities is the issue that has been least emphasized. Especially, the fact that the original urban values are replaced by the new global values is the cause of the actual breaks in the urban identity. In this study, the change/transformation of urban values over global values is considered. The new urban sensation, which corresponds to the globalization process, opens up new windows about how cities of the future will be shaped, while causing urban identities to break.
