Abstract

Multi Criteria Decision Making Methods are the ones which are based on binary comparisons of certain criteria and helping out to make most accurate decision with numerical data. These methods show a rapid development in decision analysis area in terms of practical application together with theoretical development and they have a wide application area. The study aims to identify the economical status of Turkey among OECD countries. For this purpose the criteria such as per capita gross domestic product, growth rate, infilation rate, export, import and employment rate-the basic macro economic indicators-are taken into account. The study has an importance as it puts forth the applicability of Multi Criteria Decision Making Methods with economic data. In this context the TOPSIS and ELECTRE methods that included the organizations’ binary comparisons based on criteria are used in the research. With this methods the economic performances of Turkey and other OECD countries are compared. This study is also important for identifying Turkey’s status among OECD countries by means of these criteria, putting forth the superiorities and insufficiencies in terms of economic performances and applying appropriate economic policies.
