Abstract

In Turkey, different foreign trade policies have been implemented in the historical process. The choice and timing of these policies, both national and international conjuncture, has been taken, analyzed and put into practice. The 1970s oil crisis and the liberalization tendency in the world economy led to the integration of the countries and the liberalization of trade with the influence of the globalization in the 1980s.Our country has been involved in this process with the decisions of January 24, 1980 and the country has taken steps to liberalize its trade. Among these steps, export promotion practices have been put into practice in the framework of the Customs Union Agreement with the EU in 1996 and the European Union Customs Legislation.The most commonly used inward process processing regime is an economic customs regime aimed at encouraging exports by reducing the cost of imported goods in the goods to be exported. The purpose of this study is; It is possible to reveal the export and import tariff effects from the date when the DIR system enters into force. In this context, DIR net exports, foreign exchange rate, export and import data within the framework of total exports and imports between 1996 and 2016 were examined and the effects of the processing regime on Turkish foreign trade were examined.
