Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the elements that may prevent students from participating in leisure time activities. Walking in the nature was chosen because it is simple and known as leisure time activity. For this purpose "Free Time Constraints Scale" developed by Nyaupane was used. A total of 479 university students attending the Akdeniz University, Manavgat Vocational School participated in the study period voluntarily. Among the constraints of adolescents' participation for the walking in the nature, the most effective ones are; 'I do not have enough information about the company providing the service', 'I do not have enough free time', 'I do not think my family and friends will attend', 'Travel and accommodation expenses are very high', 'Nature walk requires too much physical power'. Among the constraints, the least effective ones are; 'Nature march carries a high risk', 'I do not like this activity', 'I hinder my participation in my family responsibilities'. It has been observed that the gender variable does not have an effect on the participation constraints but, economic differences of young people affect the participation constraints.
