Abstract

Internet has become extremely important in the lives of enterprises and people as technology has developed rapidly in the recent years. Since the services on websites started to be presented in electronic format, time and cost have started to reduce in terms of both enterprises and consumers and the quality of service has started to increase. The purpose of the study is to analyze destination websites. In this context, to find out whether the destination websites belonging to Marmara Region have the fundamental characteristics destination website should have and whether these characteristics are used effectively or not is our main objective. In this study, the description of what the fundamental characteristics that should be in destination websites are and the explanation of the importance of these characteristics will ensure that the people, institutions and organizations in destination regions devote more attention to this issue. While this situation may be beneficial for the economies of both the country and the region, it can be very beneficial to the tourists that want to have current and accurate information about a specific destination. It is found out that 10 districts of the total 149 districts in 11 provinces in Marmara Region have websites and the websites of these districts are analyzed with the method of content analysis. As a result, it has been found out that many district destinations in Marmara Region do not have websites and the ones having websites have some points to improve in their websites and recommendations have been made in this regard.
